The STEAM District
"The STEAM District" is a name we use to describe the technology district that various groups are working toward building on Salt Lake City's west side -- specifically the area known as the Granary District.
The name reflects our belief that the district will be greatly enhanced by inclusion of the arts community. As a technology district, one would expect it to be inhabited by companies and workers in "STEM" related fields (science, technology, engineering and math). The inclusion of the arts is important to building the vibrant "live - work - play" community of tomorrow, as opposed to simply a concentration of technology companies.
In fact, the arts community is already establishing a strong presence in the area, making it an ideal place to build the type of community we believe will attract the kinds of companies and workers that will help make Salt Lake City the next Great American City.
Live - Work - Play
We believe that vibrant cities are best built with the whole person in mind. This is the type of development that will attract young tech workers and dynamic companies, and that will foster collaboration, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
By focusing from the start of the redevelopment of this area on wellness, walkable neighborhoods, easy access to transit, attractive shared space, the integration of entertainment, dining, educational, and other facilities to enable individuals to live, work and play in the same neighborhood, we hope to build a community that can serve as a model of modern urban planning.
